Contemporary Modern: Design Trends of the Last Decade

Published at January 15 2024 by JFord

Another decade has come and gone, and time marches on. This decade has seen some remarkable trends take shape. Trends with home design are no different. These past few years we’ve had almost two completely opposite trends come into focus when it comes to house plans and home design. On the one hand we have the Modern Farmhouse look. This style is very down to Earth and almost rustic. On the other hand, we have the Contemporary Modern look.

While this style was very popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s, it is now seeing a resurgence among younger homeowners. While these styles may be polar opposites in terms of the materials and methods used, one thing that I think they have in common is that they are both hailing from a simpler time. I think that is really what the trends of the past decade were trying to manifest; a return to a simpler time.

Contemporary Modern

This style was first made popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s during a movement away from traditional home design and house building methods. Instead of an organic approach to home design, there was a definite shift towards the fantastic. Natural materials were out, and metals and plastics were in. Now, that look is making a comeback and we are here for it. Check out these gorgeous contemporary modern house plans!

While the inside of the home boasts a massive great room and master suite with a modern media room at the front of the plan.

As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice are the classic, clean lines that are the standard for a contemporary modern home. The home also has a very low roof line and features a porch that stands out from the rest of the home.

Coming in from the 2-bay garage, which has a large storage space in the rear, you find yourself in the kid’s nook. This small but vital area gives you a perfect place to get rid of muddy garments and shoes with a bench with hanging storage. Adjacent to this is the laundry area making it perfect to help keep your home immaculate.
