French country house plans are also known as French Provincial homes. These houses do not have a specific design. They can be seen in various forms ranging from simple farm house to stately chateau. Yet there are certain features that distinguish these houses from the rest. For instance, French homes are symmetrical and have large hipped roofs. Arched entryways, extensive use of stone or brick with iron accents, and beautifully designed exteriors are also the specialty of these houses. French country homes have a warm and rustic feel, which are not very different from the beautiful manors that is seen in the country side of southern France. This is how the name French country houses came into being. Though they come in many sizes, these designs look better when used in larger upscale homes. For this reason, and also due to the attention to detail, French country house plans are costlier than other plans. The furniture used in these houses is low gloss and natural looking. Dark woods or even wrought iron and distressed metal are used, especially for accessories like tables, lamps, clocks as well as fireplaces. Roosters are another commonly found thing in French country houses. They can be found in about every imaginable place from door stops to salt and pepper shakers. French Country house designs are meant to be casual and welcoming. Therefore any imperfections only make the style more convincing. No French Country home is complete without loads of flowers, especially lavender bouquets to lend that graciousness and reflect the feeling of the French countryside.
