Home Town Love: Great House Plans for Your Home Town Part 2

Published at October 22 2024 by JFord

Everyone has a different memory of their hometown. For me the memories are of driving around and laughing and joking. Of Friday night football games and Saturday afternoon movies. For some their memories surround their school and the activities that they were in. Everyone is going to have something different that inspires nostalgia.

No matter what your memories are about or what inspires you to remember them, your hometown will always have a special place in your heart. And of course, the home that you grew up in will always be a part of that.

Hometown House Plans

I’ve gone through and found some great plans that would make a perfect place to make lasting memories. Plans that are perfect to play a central role in the story of your hometown.

Janson Cove (MEN 5224)

This European style home from award winning designer Michael E. Nelson gives you just over 3,000 square feet of living space. This lovely home features 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and 1 half bath. It also gives you a 3-bay garage for your mechanical beauties. This house plan features an open floor plan that combines the breakfast room, kitchen and great room. The great room has gorgeous vaulted ceilings and exposed timber beams. This plan also features a large safe room for your family’s peace of mind.

You enter the home through the covered entry porch with stone steps and find yourself in the large foyer. This formal touch to the home lends the home an elegant feel from the moment you walk in. The foyer leads to the open floor plan that combines the great room, kitchen and breakfast room.

The great room features a vaulted ceiling with exposed timber beams. The right wall of this space is dominated by a large stonework fireplace. The rear wall of this space gives you double French doors that lead out onto the large outdoor living area/grilling porch.

This outdoor space is split into 3 parts. There is a central part that is covered and continues the trend of the timber beams from the interior of the home. The other 2 parts are uncovered and offer a great place to grill or to entertain on sunny days. The covered part of this area also features a large outdoor fireplace.

From the great room, you can make your way to the kitchen. There is a large island that separates the space from the kitchen and the great room. This island features seating for 5 and gives you a perfect viewpoint of the great room while you are cleaning up.

The rest of the kitchen features great counterspace and a large pantry right beside the stairs to the second floor. Adjacent to the kitchen is the breakfast room. This room features a large picture window that faces the rear of the home and gives you a lovely view for an informal meal.

Nestled in between the pantry and the foyer is the dining/media room. This room gives you plenty of space to host and entertain. It features a large picture window that faces the front of the home and the curved driveway.

Behind the kitchen you will find a hall that leads to the half bath as well as to a kid’s nook that would be perfect to double as a mudroom. This space gives you plenty of storage space using a bench with hanging storage. There are two doors in the kid’s nook. One leads to the laundry room with a soaking sink and the other leads to the garage. Off the garage is the large safe room.

Further down this hallway is the master suite. The master bedroom continues the trend from the great room and features a vaulted ceiling. It also has a large window that faces the rear of the home and an entrance to the outdoor living area/grilling porch.

The master bath gives you space for both a freestanding tub and a glass corner shower. The bathroom also features his and her sinks and a linen closet. Don’t forget the large walk-in closet!

The other side of the plan features bedrooms 2 and 3. This space is set up with a centrally located shared bathroom. Each bedroom has their own sink and walk-in closet and simply share the space in the middle. Each bedroom also has a large window that faces the rear and front of the home, respectively.

The second story gives you space for both attic storage and bedroom 4. This bedroom is the largest of them all and would be perfect for an older child. It has a large closet and features its own bathroom with shower.

Stone Village (SMN 1030)

This beautiful farmhouse plan by designer Seth M. Nelson gives you just over 3,400 square feet of living space. This home gives you 6 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms and a 2-car garage. In typical Seth Nelson style, he has combined traditional elements with modern architecture. This gives you a house plan that looks like a traditional farmhouse from the outside with modern stylings on the inside including a large open floor plan that includes the great room and kitchen and a huge master suite with plenty of room to relax in a standalone tub.

As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice is the rustic accents that frame the middle part of the plan. As with any traditional farmhouse, the majority of the exterior is painted white while the middle portion behind and above the covered front porch hints at the modern architecture inside with a rustic stone façade.

As you step under the covered front porch, you are instantly transported to a simpler time with the striking white columns and the gabled roof. Once you are inside this mini mansion, you find yourself in the foyer. This foyer gives your home a taste of elegance and style before you proceed into the main portion of the home.

To the right of the foyer is the dining room. Not only does it give you a great place to entertain or hold large family dinners, it also features large windows that face the front of the home and a separate entrance from the kitchen.

Stepping out of the foyer, you find yourself in a large open floor plan that includes the great room and kitchen. The great room portion features a large brickwork fireplace in one corner of this space. There is also a large bank of windows that face the rear of the home and lead out onto the grilling porch.

This outdoor living space gives you plenty of room to entertain and would be perfect for a barbeque or summer party. The kitchen gives you plenty of counter space and includes a kitchen island that is perfect for prepping large meals. Behind the kitchen you will find a large pantry that is big enough for stocking up for those cold winter evenings.

The left side of the plan includes bedrooms 2, 3 and 4. Bedroom 2 can be accessed from the great room through optional French doors. This space includes large windows that face the front of the home and a large closet for all of your storage needs.

Bedroom 3 has access to a hall bathroom and has two large closets of its own. Bedroom 4 has its own in suite bathroom and has two large closets, as well. Both of these bedrooms have plenty of windows for light.

The other side of the plan gives you the laundry room, the master suite and the stair way to the second floor. The laundry room includes a soaking sink and an “L" shaped countertop that is perfect for folding and organizing clothes.

The master suite has plenty of space and gives you large windows that look out over the back yard of the home. The master bath has a freestanding tub and a large shower that are both perfect for soaking away the day’s worries. The master bath also includes his and hers sinks and a walk-in closet.

The second floor gives you a storage room at the top of the stairs that is perfect for storing seasonal items. This floor is where you will find bedrooms 5 and 6. Both have large closets and windows that face the front of the home and are nestled in the gables of the roof.

Bedrooms 5 and 6 also share a large bathroom and a sitting room. This sitting room would be perfect for a communal media center or computer area. It also gives you access to attic storage.
