Getting ready to move into your next home is a very exciting time in life, but it can also be very stress full. From making sure everything is packed properly to being able to keep track of each box, there are many aspects of moving that can seem like daunting tasks. But, never fear, with this simple check list you can turn this mountain into an anthill. 5-7 Weeks Before the Move: -Get quotes from moving companies or round up a group of friends who can help you on the da of your move. Moving companies can get quite pricey so if you have willing friends who are able to help you can save a lot of money. Just be sure to have waters and maybe even pizza for those who pitch in to help. -If you have children, notify their school(s). -Notify all doctors of your move and have them transfer all files to your new providers. -Declutter and Organize! There is no better time to declutter the house then when you are moving, you will have to move less and you’ll fell so much better getting rid of those old and unused items. As you declutter you can organize your items into categories such as: Keep, Donate or Sell, and Trash. 3-4 Weeks Before the Move: -Notify all New and Old utility services of your move. This includes: Trash, Electric, Cable, Water, Etc. -Get all your Packing Supplies like Boxes, Tape, Labels, Permanent Markers and Wrapping Materials. -Pack up your less frequently used items. (Make sure you label the necessary boxes Fragile!) -Number EACH box with the room it is going to be in and with a number. Record the numbers, along with what is in that box, in a notebook to keep yourself organized and to save time when unpacking. -Schedule cleaning services for your new home, especially to clean the carpets! 1-2 Weeks Before the Move: -Return all borrowed items. -Notify all Services and Accounts of your move including: Credit Cards, Insurances, Banks, Post Office, Etc. -Pack-up the remainder of the items in your home including the furniture that can be collapsed such as desks and bookshelves. (Use blankets to wrap up furniture to prevent damage and scratches) -Pack valuables and paper work in a safe container that can be kept with you during the move. -Figure out travel arrangements for your pets. -Purchase moving Insurance for valuable items. Moving Day! -Supervise the loading and unloading of moving trucks. -Double check every room and make sure you leave your old home spotless. -Lock all windows and doors before leaving for the last time. When moving is easier you will be able to enjoy your new home sooner! There is a lot involved when moving but with some forethought and planning you can tackle this project with less stress and a clear and level head.
