Scary Good House Plans: Part 1

Published at October 27 2024 by JFord

I love Halloween. It is my second favorite holiday. I don’t love it for the typical reasons. I love that kids get to be kids on this day. They get to use their imaginations and pretend to be anyone they want to be. My youngest is dressing up as Elsa from Disney’s Frozen this year and she insisted that I paint her fingernails “ice-blue" last night. What can I say? She’s a bit of a diva.

Besides the nail polish, she had to save her sister from a frozen heart about fifteen times before bed. That is what Halloween is for me. Letting kids be whatever they want to be and pretend that they can do anything. And why let just the kids dream for a while? Why can’t us adults have a little fun, too? Maybe not dress up, but imagine we are building a new house and want to look at some “scary" good house plans.

“Scary" Good House Plans

So lets just imagine that you are shopping for some house plans and you needed something that thrilled you. You needed a plan that gave you the chills in the best possible way. Look no further, I have you covered.

Edison Lane (NDG 1174)

This lovely brick home gives you just over 2,700 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths and one half bath. This house plan also features a 3 bay garage for your mechanical babies. This Arts and Crafts style house plan has fantastic curb appeal with its covered porch and unique roofline. Check out all of those gables! This home is perfect for just about any family and has a large great room and plenty of outdoor living space to entertain.

As you approach the home, the first thing you notice is that lovely roofline. Gables, gables everywhere! The home has a mixed exterior with brick and siding and features many large windows to let in all of that lovely sunlight.

Entering the home, you step under the covered porch that features rustic columns and brickwork steps. The front door leads you into the Foyer which is open to the second floor. This gives the home a lovely feeling of space as soon as you step inside.

To the left of the foyer is the dining room/ study/ den. This space can serve as many uses and gives you a double casement window facing the front of the home. If you move forward out of the foyer, you find yourself in the large great room.

This space is dominated by a large brickwork fireplace on the left wall. This fireplace is the perfect focal point for the room and has a media center built-in on the other side of it. The great room is open to the second floor, as well. It also features large windows and French doors that look out onto the grilling porch on the rear of the home.

This grilling porch gives you a large space for entertaining. There is a smaller, secondary door from the grilling porch that opens directly in front of the stairwell. To the right of the great room, you will find the hearth room/breakfast room and kitchen. The hearth room/breakfast room has a small fireplace along the right wall, but the focus here are the double windows on the other two walls of this space.

The kitchen gives you ample counterspace with a curved island that separates the hearth room/breakfast room from the kitchen area. The island gives you bar seating for four as well as a perfect space to clean up and keep an eye on the kids. The kitchen also features a built-in desk that is great for homework.

Just below the kitchen you will find a short hallway that leads in from the garage. This is a perfect space for a mudroom/coat area. This hallway branches off into the laundry room. This large room space gives you a secondary entrance to the home as well as a sink to soak away some bad situations. This part of the home is where you will find that half bath in a high traffic location.

The master suite takes up the other side of the home. The master bedroom features windows on two of the walls and a secondary entrance to the grilling porch on the rear of the home. The master bath gives you space for both a glass shower and a whirlpool tub. Don’t forget the large walk-in closet that gives you natural lighting from two windows facing the front of the home!

The second floor gives you bedrooms 2, 3 and 4. Each of these bedrooms features a large closet and access to a shared hall bathroom. The second floor also gives you a computer center which would be perfect for homework or study time and a theater style balcony that overlooks the great room below.

This house plan has so much character! From the unique roofline, to the gorgeous medieval style tower, this plan is sure to make anyone take a second look. This plan features just under 3,000 square feet of space with 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathroom and 1 half bath. Unlike most castles, this one gives you a 2 bay garage to store your iron steeds. This home will make you feel like the king in your castle with a large master suite and a huge open floor plan that includes the great room and kitchen.

This house plan gives you some major curb appeal. That medieval style tower is sure to make everyone take a second look as they come to your home. The mix of the brick exterior with the natural stonework make the outside of this home sing sweet harmony.

You enter the home from the covered porch with brickwork steps. This leads you inter the foyer. The foyer features a high 10 foot ceiling. To the right of the foyer you will find the dining room. This space is large and features plenty of room to entertain.

Moving forward into the plan, you find yourself in the large open floor plan that features the great room, kitchen, and breakfast area. This space gives you plenty of options to move around. The great room portion of this plan features a large stonework fireplace that is bracketed on each side by built-ins.

The great room opens up to the screened porch/ breeze way on the rear of the home through a series of glass doors. The kitchen is separated from this space by the large island. The island features bar seating for 4 as well as space for a sink and dishwasher. This makes it perfect for cleaning up after a meal and keeping an eye on the comings and goings in the great room.

The rest of the kitchen gives you a large pantry with plenty of counter space to spare. The kitchen bleeds into the breakfast room. This space features a large picture window that faces the rear of the home. The breakfast room also opens up to the screened porch/ breezeway through the kid’s nook. This is a perfect space to have a mudroom!

This side of the plan is finished off by bedrooms 2 and 3, the laundry room and the half bath. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a jack and jill style bathroom between them and each have their own sink and large closet. The laundry room gives you plenty of space to organize and hang and features a large sink that will allow you to tackle the toughest of messes. It also has a window that opens to the front of the home.

The other side of the plan is taken up by the master suite. The master bedroom features high 10 foot boxed ceilings and a door that opens to the screened porch/ breezeway. The master bath gives you both a glass shower and a whirlpool tub. The master suite also includes a large walk-in closet with a window that opens to the front of the home.

The best part of this plan, in my opinion, is probably the spiral staircase in the tower in the front of the home. This leads you to the second floor. Here you will find a media room with high ceilings and window that faces the front of the home.

The second floor also features a computer center that is perfect for studying or looking up random facts on the web. Bedroom 4 is located here and has its own bathroom that can be accessed from the hall. Bedroom 4 also has a large walk-in closet.

The second floor also gives you access to a large bonus room and attic storage.

This lovely traditional home gives you just over 1,700 square feet of space with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. It also features a 2 bay garage to house your mechanical beauties. This country style home gives you tons of curb appeal with a large covered porch and dormers. On the inside you will find a large great room and dining room that is perfect for entertaining.

As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice is that this is just the cutest house ever. Its got the most perfect covered porch and dormers right in the front of the home. I mean, curb appeal for days. You enter the home through the covered porch and find yourself in the foyer.

The foyer features high ceilings, 10 foot to be precise, and opens up into the open floor plan that combines the great room and dining room. The dining room is to your left and features a large picture window facing the front of the home. There is also a secondary entrance to the kitchen here which makes it ideal for family gatherings and dinner parties.

The great room is dominated by a large brickwork fireplace on the right wall of the space. The high ceilings continue in this room give the plan a bright, airy feel to the space. The back wall of this space is filled with large windows and a French door that opens onto the grilling porch on the rear of the home.

Behind the fireplace you will find Bedrooms 2 and 3. These bedrooms share the centrally located bathroom in the hall and have large closets for extra storage space.

Moving from the great room, you find yourself in the breakfast room. This space gives you a second entrance to the grilling porch on the rear of the home and features large windows that face the rear of the home.

The kitchen is adjacent ot the breakfast room and has a huge amount of counterspace. It also includes a corner pantry in between the entrance to the dining room and the oven. The space between the breakfast room and kitchen is separated by a bar with seating for 4.

Beyond the kitchen, you will find a short hallway that leads you to the laundry room and the master suite. The laundry room gives you plenty of space to take care of your family’s necessities and includes a soaking sink to get rid of stubborn stains.

The master suite features a large master bedroom with windows that face the rear of the home and a private entrance to the grilling porch. The master bath gives you space for both a large corner shower and whirlpool tub. The master bath also features a large walk in closet.
