Traditional American House Plans: Part 1

Published at November 10 2024 by JFord

Veteran’s day is always a hard day for me to describe. I have family that have served in our military, but I never have. When I was in high school, I was required to take the ASVAB. We weren’t given any warning about it. Just one day during our junior year we were brought into the auditorium and there were several men in Air Force uniforms handing out test booklets. I scored remarkably well for a woman and was instantly on their radar.

They wanted me to become a linguistics expert. Even then I had a way with words and playing with languages had always been fun to me. I thought it might be a good idea. Then my great uncle who had served in the Korean Conflict sat me down and talked to me about what it was really going to be like. Far from home. Always afraid. Never really knowing what was going on. Always wondering if you were going to make it home. It scared me. I know now that it was meant to. I went to college instead. There are those who did decide to go that route. And I can’t imagine the strength and courage it takes to do that.
