Welcome Fall! Great Cabin Plans: Part 2

Published at September 25 2024 by JFord

I stepped outside to a pleasant surprise this morning. It was actually cool! Like, not cold, but just cool enough that it felt great as we got loaded into the car. The littlest one started talking about how she was going to need her jacket soon and how the leaves on the trees were turning yellow. It was a good way to start the day and a great morning for the first official week of fall.

I love fall. It’s my favorite time of year. It’s not too cold so that I feel like I’m freezing all the time, but its also not hot so that I feel like the wicked witch of the west. “I’m melting! I’m melting!"

Great Cabin Plans

Fall makes me think of curling up next to a warm fire on a cool night and just enjoying some quiet time. To me, fall is the perfect time of year to think about cabins. So here are some really great cabin plans for you to look at.

Featured in this blog are Timberline Ridge (MEN 5016), Olive Street (NDG 256) and Sunset Ridge (NDG 1277).

Timberline Ridge (MEN 5016)

This rustic house plan gives you just over 5,000 square feet of living space and features 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms and 1 half bath. It also gives you the versatility of a 2-car garage. This home gives you everything you want in a modest mansion including a large closet and luxurious bathroom in the Master Suite, a huge Great Room with exposed timber trusses and a large walk out basement that gives you plenty of room for your family.

You can enter the home from the Covered Front Porch that features a vaulted ceiling and stonework and exposed beam detailing and find yourself in the large Foyer. The vaulted ceiling from the Front Porch continue through the Foyer and on into the Great Room and even to the Covered Porch directly to the rear of the Great Room.

The Great Room features a large gas fireplace that is bracketed on each side by built-in shelving. Like any good rustic home, the Great Room features both exposed beams and large patio doors on the rear of the home that open up into the Covered Porch. The Covered Porch gives you more of that lovely rustic styling with stonework and columns and a vaulted ceiling.

To the right of the Great Room you can find the Hearth Dining Area and Kitchen. This wide-open space gives you plenty of room for your family to enjoy meals together. The Hearth Dining Area features room for a massive table and opens onto both the Open Deck and Grilling Porch on the rear of the home.

The Grilling Porch is covered and features a vaulted ceiling with a fireplace and a place to put in a state-of-the-art grill with a vent-a-hood. The Hearth Dining Room also features a refreshment bar with room for both a refrigerator and a microwave. This would be a perfect place to keep kiddos juices and cold snacks or for the adults a great place to keep the alcoholic refreshments.

The Kitchen features a large “C" shaped countertop that wraps around one of the walls and gives you plenty of prep space as well as room for a large range and dishwasher. It also features bar seating for 4 and a large island for prep work.

The Hearth Dining Area opens up to the Guest Bedroom. This Bedroom features large openings to the side of the home as well as its own in-suite bathroom with corner shower. The Kitchen opens up to a hallway that can double as a Mudroom, especially as it comes directly off of the Garage.

This hallway features both a closet for coats and a bench with hanging storage for all of your gear before it makes it into the rest of the home. This area also features a large office space that is perfect for someone to work from home, do some quick research before supper or for the kids to do schoolwork or homework. This area also features a large Pantry and Laundry Room.

On the other side of this plan you will find the Master Suite. The Master Bedroom features boxed ceilings and patio doors that give you access to the Open Deck on the rear of the home. The Master Bath features both a free-standing tub as well as a large shower with a seat. And I love the walk-in closet on this plan. Not only does it give you plenty of room for all of your clothes, but it also has a window and an area for a seat in the middle.

Moving to the walk out basement, we step from the stairs and into a large Game Room that features a gas fireplace. This game room also has its own mini bar with a refrigerator and sink. You can also access the second Laundry Room here. The basement also gives you Bedrooms 3 and 4 each with their own linen closet, large closet for clothes and in-suite bathrooms.

There is room for an optional bunk room which would be perfect for those nights when all of the kids wanted to stay at your house and two large storage rooms. The basement also has a large hobby room. This is perfect for those school projects that require a ton of glue and glitter. Having a place to keep all of that mess contained is great for those of us with kids. (Just ask me about the glitter tutu I made for the youngest’s Halloween costume last year. I was vacuuming glitter until May.)

Olive Street (NDG 256)

This home gives you just over 2,000 square feet of living space with 3 Bedrooms and 2.5 Baths and a 2 car Garage. This house plan is a great plan for just about anyone. This plan features a large open floor plan with the Kitchen, Great Room and Dining Room all in one section of the home. The home also features beautiful skylights in the Great Room. The Master Suite is a Mary Poppins space, nearly perfect in every way.

The first thing you notice about the home is the Covered Porch covering the front of the home. Wouldn’t this be a great place to relax on a hot afternoon after work? The wood columns of the porch lend the home an air of county living even if this plan is nestled in the heart of the city.

Stepping into the home, you find yourself in the Foyer. Here you will find the half bath conveniently located near the door. Perfect for families with kids or after a very long car trip. The older I get, the worse it is, I swear.

Moving further into the home your find yourself in the open floor plan with the Great Room, Kitchen and Dining Room. Because this plan is so open, you find yourself noticing everything about it at once. The Great Room has a wonderful brickwork fireplace built onto the rear wall of the home as well as entrances to the Screened Porch.

The Dining Room features large picture windows that face out of the home and give you more of that gorgeous natural light. Speaking of natural light, this plan gives you space for skylights here. This opens the home up to all of those beneficial rays and helps to give this home some natural touches.

If you are looking for a company to provide the skylights for this home, don’t worry. Nelson Design Group has your back there as well. Our Corporate Partner Fakro USA is a world leader in Roof Windows, Skylights, Attic Ladders and Balcony Windows. We recommend all of their products to our customers. They are a great company will go the extra mile to take care of you.

The Kitchen features a large island that gives you ample room for your dishwasher and sink. The Kitchen also gives you plenty of counter space as well as a Pantry and a Computer Center in the room. The Kitchen leads you to the Laundry Room.

The Laundry Room in this home is one of those combination Laundry Room – Mudrooms. This is also the entrance to the home from the Garage and side entrance. I love these kinds of multipurpose rooms. The Laundry Room features space for your appliances as well as hanging and storage space a large soaking sink for all of those super messy clothes that we will inevitably find at the bottom of the laundry basket. The Mudroom portion of this space features a Kids Nook with a bench and hanging storage.

Moving into the rest of the home, you find Bedrooms 2 and 3. Bedroom 3 has beautiful French doors opening into it and can also double as a Den if you don’t need that many bedrooms. French doors are great for families that need more room for mobility.

Bedroom 2 is really a jewel of a room. It features a bay window that faces the side of the home with a window seat for those rainy days when you just want to sit and read. Both Bedrooms feature large picture windows facing the front of the home under the Covered Porch and large closets.

The Master Suite in this home is one of the best laid out areas I have seen in a house plan. The Master Bedroom features a vaulted ceiling and a private entrance to the Grilling Patio on the rear of the home. You move between the two walk-in closets to get from the Master Bedroom to the Master Bath.

The Master Bath features a very large soaking tub with a glass-brick wall as well as a corner glass shower. It even features a small window facing the rear of the home and a small linen closet to store all of your towels and necessities.

I have to say, I think this is one of my favorite plans. I just love the way it looks as you come up to it. And our clients who provided us with some gorgeous photos (which you can see on the plan page) had excellent taste in choosing that blue with the white trim. I think it would also be pretty in a grey or a light green with that white trim, but that’s just me.

This Rustic mini mansion gives you 4,500 square feet of living space with 5 Bedrooms and 5.5 Baths. (Yes, that is a lot of bathrooms and clearly that is one of the ways into my poor mommy heart.) This home also features a 3-car garage.

The front of the home is faced with a Covered Porch with stonework columns and accents. It gives you great curb appeal. As you enter the home, you find yourself in the Foyer that features a large opening to the second story of the home as well as a staircase to the left. The Foyer also gives you a great place to store your coats and belongings with a coat closet and a bench with hanging storage.

Continuing into the home, you find yourself in a large Great Room with a stonework fireplace that adds to the Rustic appeal of this plan. The plan gives you the option to have built in shelving on either side of the large fireplace. The Great Room opens up to the Covered Grilling Porch with double doors and large windows.

The Kitchen gives you bar seating for 6 as well as tons of counterspace. The Kitchen also features a serving counter that gives you instant access to the Great Room. Perfect for snacks and Netflix binge sessions! Another important feature of the Kitchen is the large Pantry that gives you plenty of space for all of your canned and dry goods.

The Kitchen opens up to the Breakfast Nook that features large windows that look out on to the rear of the home. It also connects to the Hearth Room that features a large stonework fireplace. This is a perfect living area for you and your family to enjoy on those quiet nights in.

Don’t worry, though, there is also a formal Dining Room that is directly across the hall from the Kitchen. This large space gives you a great view of the front of the home and ample room for all of your formal entertaining needs. Directly across the hall from the Dining Room is the Guest Room with its own in-suite Bathroom and walk-in closet.

The first floor also features a large Laundry Room with an “L" shaped countertop and soaking sink for those super tough stains. On the other side of the home you will find Bedroom 2 that can also be used as an office space. This room features its own Bathroom and has large windows that face out on to the front of the home.

The Master Suite finishes up this floor of the home. It features a private exit to the Covered Grilling Porch and a picture window facing the rear of the home. The Master Bath features a corner glass shower and a whirlpool tub as well as two walk-in closets.

The second floor of the home is just as impressive as the first. Here you will find Bedroom 4 which features it own Bathroom and walk-in closet and has a lovely space for a reading nook. The second floor also has Bedroom 3 that has a large walk-in closet and a charming window area that is perfect for a desk or seat.

There is a second Bathroom on this floor as well as a Computer Room that can also be used for homeschooling or as an office. The best feature of the second floor is the Home Theater/Game Room. This massive space can be used in many different ways, but it would be perfect for the ultimate Media Room.
